The Island Experience", in the first episode, local PEI historian, Boyde Beck takes us on a journey through the history of the Ice Boats, and explains just what was involved in the earlier forms of travel across the ice from Prince Edward Island to Nova Scotia and back.
Brian Langille, a local videographer worked with local historian Boyde Beck to create the first of many PEI heritage videos. Langille describes his experience with developing the video saying, “The best part of making the video for me was getting to hear the stories as Boyde was telling them, not being from the Island, it was all new information for me and I found it fascinating to listen to as he explained in great detail the history of the ice boats and I can’t wait to hear about other aspects of this history of the Island.”
Jeff Gaudet, Director of Technology and Marketing Programs, fully supported the project saying, “Langille has done a fantastic job of blending Boyde as a story teller with authentic photos from that time period. We hope that the video will be well received and enjoyed by the public and historians alike.”
The PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation www.peimuseum.com represents numerous museum and heritage properties Island wide, Executive Director David Keenlyside states, "The PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation is delighted to partner with Northumberland Ferries to create these history video vignettes. We encourage you to visit our many interesting and exciting museums across Prince Edward Island to experience and learn more about our Island's rich heritage."
